A Short Piece on Atlanta

Okay, I know I haven’t wrote for awhile but hear me out here:

I’ve been working on myself lately. 2017 was not the best year for me. I tried my best to make it the best year and I did some pretty cool things. But it was all temporary. And when that temporary high dropped, so did I. That being said, I’ve been working on myself for the majority of 2018 and have been pretty pleased with myself. So as a result, I may start writing here again more often pretty soon starting with this little article, review, opinion, thingy, piece that probably isn’t even a piece quite honestly.

I just really like the FX show Atlanta. It stars one of my favorite artists Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover and really flexes his ability to tell a story with some great writing, decent acting along with some really relatable and hilarious situations. Season 1 was one hell of a trip and I bought it on iTunes to support the man and the crew that brought the show to life.

That being said, reading several post discussion threads on Reddit have opened my eyes to a few different perspectives in regard to the story each episode has tried to tell this season. I binged episodes 1-10 after slacking on episode 3 and have really enjoyed each one for different reasons. I won’t go into super detail about each episode but I’ll throw in maybe a sentence or two that people who have seen the episodes will get and maybe relate to.  I thought this would be a fun thing to write about rather than post on my Facebook where maybe only two people on my entire friend list will understand.

So here we go.

Season 2 Episode 1 – Alligator Man

My thoughts: Holy shit, they actually got an alligator for this. That scene was angelic as fuck.

episode 1

Season 2 Episode 2 – Sportin Waves

My thoughts: Earn you fucking dumbass, Darius does you a solid and you go ahead and do this dumb shit. Tracy’s waves was one of the funniest shits I’ve seen all year.

episode 2.jpg

Season 2 Episode 3 – Money Bag Shawty

My thoughts: Stuntin ain’t worth it.

episode 3

Season 2 Episode 4 – Helen

My thoughts: On some real shit, fuck Earn. But….from the outside looking in, what Van does here isn’t cool either.  Then again….fuck Earn.

episode 4

Season 2 Episode 5 – Barbershop

My thoughts: This was perhaps the most infuriating half hour of television I have ever experienced. And I’ve sat through shit episodes of the Walking Dead which is even longer.

episode 5

Season 2 Episode 6 – Teddy Perkins

My thoughts: This had to be a prolonged reference to MJ. An intense and entertainingly prolonged reference. I really really enjoyed the Sammy Sosa scene though.

episode 6

Season 2 Episode 7 – Champagne Papi

My thoughts: Stuntin ain’t worth it.

episode 7

Season 2 Episode 8 – Woods

My thoughts: I wasn’t sure what to think of this episode after I watched it. For a time, I was scared. Then I was sad. Then I was hopeful. This episode was a ride. Stuntin ain’t worth it.

episode 8

Season 2 Episode 9 – North of the Border

My thoughts: Fuck Tracy. I imagine things would have gone better with him not involved but this was still one of many bad decisions Earn has made throughout the series. I really did feel his intense frustration though.
                                                   Shake that laffy taffy.

episode 9

Season 2 Episode 10 – FUBU

My thoughts: This episode hit me hard if not just for the ending but for everything leading up to it. Middle school was brutal. Kids are brutal. When that part of your life sucks and so does your life at home, it can really understandably push you over the edge.

episode 10

So these, give or take, are my reactions to each episode as I watched them. When the season started, I did watch episodes 1 and 2 on time but then started forgetting about the show and cut off my cable and tuned it out unintentionally. Might have been a good thing cause I really do like binging shows and I enjoyed doing that here.

One more episode to go.
